Pottery equipment suppliers

New Equipment

New pottery equipment is available either directly from the manufacturer (see below) or from one of the major pottery supplies companies.

Used and second-hand

Equipment often comes up on eBay, on the UK Potters website, or in classified ads in Ceramic Review, the local paper or the Anglian Potters newsletter. Suppliers of new equipment may also be able to source second-hand equipment - this is particularly true of kiln suppliers.

When buying second-hand equipment please take a knowledgeable friend with you and remember that pottery equipment can be very heavy to transport and may have particular (and expensive) electrical supply requirements.

Further afield, there are a number of others including

Wheels

Potters Wheels vary widely in quality and robustness so do try before you buy or ask friends for recommendations. Some makes will be available directly from the manufacturer whilst others can be bought through the major pottery materials suppliers who act as agents. Makes include

Slab rollers

Slab rollers are large pieces of equipment and therefore somewhat specialised. You can theoretically make your own from an old mangle, otherwise makers include

Pugmills

Pugmills prepare clay by mixing and extruding it. They need to be robust and powerful machines and are therefore expensive and often require a 3 phase electrical supply. De-airing pugmills are particularly desirable. Makers of pugmills include

Extruders

Pugmills can be used to extrude clay but for most studio potters a wall-mounted, hand-operated extruder provides enough versatility at a much reduced price. Makes include
