- After being a painter for many years, I decided to take a
course in ceramics and became totally hooked!
- I am inspired by the natural form and this is why I enjoy
raku work most of all. It is the unpredictability of this method which
fascinates me; the natural forces of fire seem to create a swirling galaxy of
colours and each pot becomes totally unique, like a painting.
- My pots are first fired to 950c in an electric kiln, then
painted with oxides and then refired in a gas kiln outside at 1050c. They are
transferred into sawdust filled bins for a period of reduction.
- I also like working with porcelain and stoneware which I
fire to 1200C in a woodburning kiln and at the moment I am concentrating on
slab forms.
