- Wide interest in ceramics, drawn to pots that are heavily
dependant upon the presence of fire in the kiln.
- Work in stoneware and porcelain and fire with gas,
usually in a reduction atmosphere.
- Influences tend to be Japanese, Chinese and Korean pots
and the work of the studio potters who embraced this tradition in the twentieth
century.
- Most of my work is made on the wheel. Some larger pieces
are hand built.
- I seek to produce high quality individual studio pieces,
mostly using glazes alone as the means to decorate the pot.
- Glaze development is of particular interest. Glazes are
prepared from raw materials using traditional oriental recipes as the basis for
most.
- Wood ash is used in some. These are used both as a single
glaze and in combination with other glazes. Striking colours and effects are
sought. Copper reds, mottled purples, blue Chuns and Tenmokus are
characteristic.
